Translating Messolonghi

11 artists from the School of Fine Arts of Florina, after experiencing Messolonghi, present us with visual and auditory works and collaborative art. Through a process of selection and translation of stimuli, they have transformed the experience of the city and the landscape, its natural, intellectual, and historical wealth, into art that speaks about Messolonghi.

Exploring the World of Messolonghi’s Salt Pans

Watch an interesting presentation by the founders of the Salt Museum and learn about the history of Messolonghi’s salt pans. Walk through the salt pans where you will find the unique “afrina”. An experiential encounter with the white treasure that is an important part of Messolonghi’s cultural identity.

Tasty Journey with Local Flavors

Come and experience an authentic culinary journey through the demonstration of traditional recipes by the oral storytelling team of Messolonghi. We will share the secrets of authentic flavors of our region and explore the world of local gastronomy.

Local flavors will also be available during the evening, mainly Messolonghis famous curred fish. But that’s not all! Guests and participants can bring their own dishes with flavors from our local tradition, creating a real collective table full of tastes and unique experiences.

Let’s come together to discover the delightful flavors that Messolonghi holds.

Musical Journeys to the Places of Greece

The first day of the festival concludes with the customary Traditional Celebration, where the musical traditions of Messolonghi blend with sounds and melodies from all over Greece. Exceptional artists will take us on a journey through the richness of traditional music, creating an atmosphere of unique festivity.

Come and immerse yourself in the rhythm of the dances, taste the authentic cuisine of our region, and experience an evening filled with genuine traditions and emotions.

Balloon Magic

A child should never be deprived of a balloon because someone older knows that sooner or later it will pop. That’s why in this theatrical workshop aimed at young children, we will do everything a balloon can do at “Logismo kai Oneiro” – transform, pop, dance, inflate, bend, change our voices, and fly high!

An adventure of discovery in the archaeological site of the Xenokrateio Archaeological Museum for children aged 6-12! Guided by museum educator Mimika Gavrina, we’ll explore archaeological findings. In the sculpture workshop, we’ll create small sculptures inspired by antiquity, learning about the techniques of sculpture.

The fishermen will welcome you to their pelada (working space and home of fishermen) and take you on a journey through the world of fishing. You’ll get to know the “ivari” fishing method, catch fish, and witness the production process of botargo, one of Messolonghi’s most important products.

Omin, an artist and graduate of the School of Fine Arts in Florina and a member of the art workshop “Into the spot,” will guide you through a creative journey, sharing his love for silkscreen printing and painting. You’ll create unique designs and print posters and fabric bags, while learning about the history and technique of silkscreen printing.

An Engraving Journey in the Trikene Distillery

Hiking in Chounista

Embark on a hiking adventure in the Chounista area and immerse yourself in the natural environment of Arakynthos. The Association of Agios Georgios Chounista will welcome us and guide us through this exciting journey.

There will be two routes:

Route for Beginners: A walk through the forest from the forest road.

Route for Experienced Hikers: Hiking along the Adam’s Path, leading to the Arakynthos ridge.

Recommended hiking gear: hiking shoes, water, snacks, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, personal hygiene items.

Exploring the sealake in the traditional fisherman’s boat

Experience the traditional “gaïta,” which is not only an essential tool for fishermen but also a means to explore the sealake of Kleisova. This boat trip provides insight into the unique sealake that has historically contributed to the region’s development. An environmentalist will accompany the tours, offering comprehensive information about the wetland and its biodiversity.

Journey through the History of the City

This historical guided tour will focus on significant points where important events unfolded during the city’s preparation for defense, sieges, the Exodus, and subsequent events. The journey through Messolonghi’s streets will highlight its role in Greece’s path towards independence.
